The eldest of three, Prince Niklaus is destined to become King of Asporoth. And he does a good job of pretending to be excited about that, too. However, in his heart, he knows that he would not be a good King. He does not want the responsibility or the power. He would prefer his level-headed, duty-bound brother, Odiberius, take the throne instead. Nik believes that if he behaves irresponsibly enough, his father will pass the crown to Odiberius instead, but so far it has not worked.

He believes that, if he can convince Theia to marry him, his father will surely allow him to ascend the throne before his oaf of a brother. Odiberius is bound by duty and honor, but he will do whatever it takes to get what he wants; the attention and recognition always stolen from him by Nik. His intentions in Kokina may have been purely selfish in the beginning, but after tragedy strikes the Kingdom and he finds himself the only one high-born enough to handle the situation at hand, something changes within Odiberius. Love might have something to do with it, too. |
